First Chair

This is the nearly completed first chair that I have made, it just needs to have a seat weaved onto it

First Project

Due to lack of good quality straight Ash I decided to have a go at making some stools rather than go for the chairs, I am glad I did as it enabled me to practice a lot of the skills, such as using the shave horse and the pole lathe.
The seat is made from bullrush collected from our local river the Waveney, it was dried and then plaited before weaving onto the stool, it is very strong and we like the colour although sadly that will fade.

Tools of the trade

This is called a Shave horse, it is a very useful tool that grips the piece of work by a clever clamp that is operated by your legs and so leaves both hands free to use a drawknife or spokeshave

This was the first thing that I built, it is called a pole lathe. they were first found in use back in the time of the Pharaohs
